Students master technical skills as they work in state-of-the-art digital facilities, learn traditional and alternative darkroom processes, and develop a deep understanding of the medium’s history and contemporary directions. On this module you will develop a creative concept that will be the focus of a photographic research project. The subject of the project will address an area that interests you and will allow you to continue developing your practice. You will work independently on the project, with support from your tutors, as you take it from idea generation to realisation and exhibition. You will also consider the photography industry and begin to develop a professional online presence for your work. This module also gives you the opportunity to explore a professional placement, if appropriate.

Over six weeks students learn about set construction, large format and moving image capture and post production. In addition to this, students are asked to engage and reflect upon historical and contemporary debate in relation to narrative, truth and photography. The friendly and supportive course encourages you to explore and evolve your photographic vision and practice through a programme of workshops, seminars, lectures and work experience opportunities. Through a sequence of practical projects, you gain a range of technical skills and professional knowledge. Experimentation and risk-taking are encouraged together with the critical study of photographic histories, theories and contemporary practices.
